ePrep was established in the fall of 2005 by fellow Princeton University graduates, Karl Schellscheidt and Eric Barnes. The inspiration for ePrep is found in Karl's successful private tutoring practice. For the past 16 years, Karl has been helping students from his community prepare for tests like the SAT, PSAT, ACT, SSAT, and LSAT. Karl’s class of 2007 was admitted to schools that include Brown, Bucknell, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, NYU, Princeton and UPENN. The demand for Karl's tutoring services had far outstripped his ability to meet with students one-on-one. The question loomed - How could Karl's unique teaching expertise break the physical limitations of his personal time to reach more students?
While surveying the current landscape for test prep services, Karl focused in on a critical discovery - that the traditional test prep market had become stagnant, complacent and mechanical in its approach to teaching over the past twenty years. The rising importance of standardized tests in college acceptance gave rise to massive test prep companies whose need for scalability forced an inevitable dilution in the art and quality of teaching. At what point did a recent graduate scoring in the 99th percentile on a standardized test become an effective teacher of the subject matter? The rise of the Internet allowed for major innovations in test preparation, yet the established prep firms had merely used the online medium to repurpose their test prep books.
Karl connected with former classmate and Internet entrepreneur Eric Barnes to develop ePrep. Their first action was to establish ePrep as an engaging resource for free and insightful test prep and college planning information. Over the next two years, with the help of leading education experts, Karl and Eric analyzed the market for standardized test prep services and developed the blueprint for ePrep's innovative online study program. Centered on the proven methodology of test-grade-review cycle, ePrep's broadband online video platform delivers dynamic, personal and expert instruction at the critical "review" stage of learning. ePrep's study programs are fun, convenient, and most importantly, highly effective.
